420 Rally in Denver 2016
I had High Hopes of seeing the concert and being a part of History during the 420 weekend rally. However, Mother nature had other plans. Sure, it snowed. Wet, sloppy snow. CDOT posted warnings for the predicted forecast and was accurate for the most part. The roads were cleared and it warmed up. So, I decided to head out and see what was going on. They boasted that it was going to happen, even showed pics of them setting up in the darkness. I believed, however it was apparently cancelled at the last minute. All I saw was fencing around the Civic Center, I’m not a fan of being fenced in. I don’t fear it, for it can not hold me.
On April 20th, as it turned out, the fences were gone and so was the mass commercialism. No pat downs or bags searched. No tickets needed, Everyone was a VIP. This to me, was more legit. A peaceful assembly of pot smoker. There to enjoy their Herb under the Colorado Sky. Making a statement for others, whose voices can not be heard.
There’s also an unspoken rule. Not sure who passed it down from whom. But I can deal with it. The Denver Cops during the 420 Freedom Rally at Civic Center Park, in Denver, Colorado were ticketing people for smoking prior to 4:20. I’m going to call this a “party foul“. But not really during or after. It reminds me of some sport were you can’t start till the whistle blows.
So, Prior to the whistle blowing, I made some rounds and checked out all the beautiful people in the park. I was showing my BFP to those who say something about it, then I mention that I make them. I may bring up 2 Chainz, the Rapper or Dr. Dina, the Lovely lady they modeled the show Weeds after, or show some video of People hitting it. I did’t attempt to sell them at the rally, though I have in the past, It’s more about product awareness and passing out my cards to those interested in my work. I want them to see my artwork. I make each one. And when they do see it, they want to smoke it. But most of all is, they want a picture of them hitting it, or at least looking like they’re smoking it. That’s what makes this event so special to me. It’s the immediate social interaction with like minded people. Maybe it’s their ego’s, or maybe it’s mine. Either way, I try to build them up with the hope that I too will be elevated. Am I high yet? Lol.
Countdown Begins, I’ve worked my way to the center area and hold my BFP up high. Everyone around me is photographing it and I place a modest joint to my lips as I pull the eight out of my pocket and grab a bud and crumble it into the bowl and light up the BFP at 420.
Smoking weed is not so special in Colorado. As say, somewhere with different laws. but 420, It holds a special place in my heart. Twice a day, twelve hours apart. lol. Sure, we smoke whenever we want, right? but, It’s the social aspects that the government isn’t understanding. That’s where Bars or Pubs use alcohol for social means, so Marijuana needs it’s place of social activities. Not just once a year, but a coffee shop model for weed. Maybe we could look to europe for an example of some sort of coffee type arrangement for pot smokers that could work. lol. Here are but a few people I got to meet. Even on my walk back to the studio, people came out of their homes to take a Pic’s of my BFP’s.
