Iron Art Festival V

Iron Art Festival V. It was great to be apart of this event. I made several molds. All were poured, with one needing some future mending. I’m happy with the results. But there was much more to be gained from this event.

Guest Speaker, Sculpture Professor and Artist David Lobdell Demonstrated several Hot Patina techniques that work well with iron, providing a broader spectrum of colors and textures for future Artworks.

The following day, David took to the stage for an entertaining and thoughtful lecture. For those who did not know, he was a potter at one time. I loved this fact, but I’ve known that for years. I just like hearing him say it. David spoke of cummunication, citing the ancient text from the Sumerian called cuneiform. This writing is done on clay tablets with distinct impressed marking. With today’s technological advancements, it has evolved to a binary system that moves information around world digitally. David uses this visual binary code in conjunction with his Artwork, creating a dialog about visual language.

But wait there’s more, Don’t let the cape fool you. There’s an S on his chest, Man he’s Super. David ran the Coupla “Irish Luck” opposite of “Kraken” providing molten metal for over 100 sand tiles for the general public, not to mention all the student artworks. He’s a Super Hero in my book. a big THANK YOU to Rian Kerrane and University of Denver Colorado.
